Dads Get Their Due At the Terraces

On June 18, our Terraces at Tulane celebrated a Father’s Day event, honoring all fathers & grandfathers living there. The Terraces at Tulane is comprised of 200 one-bedroom units and provides housing for senior residents, age 62 and older, with incomes at or below 50% of Area Median Income. The dads were treated to tasty food and decorations aplenty.

Like the Mothers’ Day event, the gentlemen of the Terraces sat at tables, served food by staff restaurant-style. “This is wonderful!” said Mr. Andrew Kish, a Terraces resident (pictured on the far left).

Thanks to Dionne Campfield, Senior Service Coordinator (pictured alongside Terraces residents), and Terraces staff for another successful celebration!

Volunteers of America Greater New Orleans Disaster Recovery Efforts

Volunteers of America Greater New Orleans has taken the lead in assisting with disaster recovery efforts since Hurricane Andrew in 1992. Recovery efforts continued following Hurricanes Katrina, Rita, Gustav and Ike.

Since the Deepwater Horizon oil spill, we have been in the affected areas assessing the needs of victims and deciding how best to address them. Survivors are reporting economic hardship, lack of employment, loss of livelihood, fear or losing their homes and homelessness. Survivors are also experiencing an increased amount of frustration, anger, sadness, and stress and, as a result, an increase in mental health issues. Many have reported contemplating suicide.

Volunteers of America Greater New Orleans is currently assessing the needs to assist with crisis counseling and disaster case management. Providing assistance to those most affected by the oil spill disaster will enable us to continue our mission of serving others.
